As for the elastin fibers, they are responsible for the elasticity of the skin, and they are affected with age, leading to the formation of wrinkles in the elderly.

However, with the intake of large amounts of artificial or added sugar, the elastin fibers are affected at an early stage, which leads to the appearance of wrinkles at an early time.


Antioxidants are compounds that stop the harmful effects of free radicals on the epidermis and dermis.

Studies have shown that sugar has a strong relationship in disrupting the action of these antioxidant compounds and thus the appearance of wrinkles and premature skin aging.

How to protect your skin from wrinkles?

Even as you get older, you can protect your skin from developing wrinkles by:

v Relying on complex carbohydrates instead of simple ones, while increasing the intake of fats and protein and reducing sugar in food.

v Refrain from smoking, which affects collagen in the skin and accelerates the appearance of wrinkles.

v Do regular exercise.

v Sleep for a period sufficient for the body's need.
